The following is a list of arts organizations, museums, galleries, theatres, musical groups and performance venues in and around Salem. There is also a section dedicated to children’s arts. If you would like to see your organization listed, or would like to update the description of your organization, please send us an email.
ART SMART – Nonprofit membership organization whose purpose is to coordinate, advise, promote and encourage all activities dedicated to the appreciation of the arts within the greater Salem area.
ARTISTS IN ACTION - Nonprofit group of artists working to create stronger ties with each other and with the communities of the Salem area. Monthly meetings include discussion and sharing of information of interest to artist members, and are also intended to educate and inspire creativity.
KEIZER ART ASSOCIATION – Rotating monthly exhibits, classes, summer camps and more.
SALEM ART ASSOCIATION - One of the largest community arts organizations in Oregon. SAA operates the Bush House Museum and the Bush Barn Art Center, which houses two exhibit galleries and a sales gallery featuring work by regional artists. SAA also offers art classes in a variety of media and school programs in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties.
SILVERTON ART ASSOCIATION – With a membership of well over 100 artists and patrons, the Silverton Art Association has been serving the city of Silverton with arts and art education for forty years. Offers exhibit opportunities and classes; SAA is committed to promoting the arts in Silverton as well as improving the quality of life in the community.
WILLAMETTE ART CENTER – Offers a wide range of ceramics classes from handbuilding and wheel throwing to raku firing. Classes for children are also offered.
WILLAMETTE WRITERS (Salem Chapter) - The largest writers’ organization in Oregon and one of the largest in the country. Monthly meetings feature speakers and an opportunity to meet and socialize with fellow local writers.
GALLERIES
BUSH BARN ART CENTER - Salem Art Association’s galleries are housed at Bush Barn Art Center. The AN Bush Gallery and Focus Gallery feature exhibits of regional, national and international artists. The Camas Gallery is a sales gallery offering handcrafted items and artwork in variety of media by artists from the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
MARY LOU ZEEK GALLERY - Features a wide array of art jewlery and art work by contemporary artists working in a variety of media. Art work tends to be colorful, mixed-media and whimsical in nature.
LUNARIA GALLERY - A cooperative gallery located in Silverton, featuring the work of member artists working in a variety of media, from jewlery to scupture, painting, drawing, ceramics, fiber art and printmaking.
MUSEUMS & LOCAL HISTORY
BUSH HOUSE MUSEUM – Built in 1878, this Italianate mansion was home to Asahel Bush II, founder of the Statesman newspaper. The house is open for guided tours and contains decorative furnishings and fine art, primarily from the 19th century. THE GORDON HOUSE – The only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building in Oregon, and the only one open to the pubic in the Pacific Northwest. The Gordon house, designed in the Usonian tradition, was built in 1967. Located adjacent to the Oregon Garden in Silverton. Guided tours are offered by advance arrangement.
HALLIE FORD MUSEUM OF ART -Located on the campus of Willamette University, HFMA has a diverse array of artworks on permanent view, as well as rotating exhibitions that focus primarily on noted artists from the Pacific Northwest region.
HISTORIC DEEPWOOD ESTATE – Oregon’s most ornate examples of Queen Anne architecture, designed by prominent northwest architect W.C. Knighton. Features original elaborate Povey stained glass windows, and Eastern Golden Oak woodwork, make Deepwood a unique living museum.
JENSEN ARTIC MUSEUM – The only museum on the West Coast devoted to collecting, preserving and teaching about Arctic culture and ecology. Exhibits explore animals and people of the Arctic in Europe, Canada and Alaska, including traditional indigenous life and the influences of outside culture, as well as contemporary Alaskan life. Located on the campus of Western Oregon University.
KEIZER HERITAGE COMMUNITY CENTER -Located in the restored 1916 Keizer School, KHCC is home to the Keizer Heritage Museum, which presents exhibits of local interest, and the Keizer Art Association Enid Joy Mount Gallery and Classroom.
MARION COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY - Promoting the appreciation of regional history, through exhibits, publications and educational outreach.
MISSION MILL MUSEUM – Three 1840s Mission houses and a 19th-century woolen mill that provide a window into Oregon’s early settlement and industry. Exhibitions, educational programs, Museum store, café and other gift shops on site.
CAMERATA MUSICA – presents a full season of free chamber music concerts at Salem Public Library’s Loucks Auditorium.
FESTIVAL CHORALE OREGON – A chorus of professional and amateur singers presenting a wide variety of classical and popular music.
OREGON SYMPHONY IN SALEM – Presenting a season of nine to ten classical and pops concerts a year by the Oregon Symphony Orchestra.
SALEM COMMUNITY CONCERT ASSOCIATION – An all-volunteer nonprofit organization which brings outstanding entertainment in a variety of genres, from classical, jazz and folk to popular and theatrical music.
SALEM CHAMBER ORCHESTRA — A partnership between the Salem-Keizer community and Willamette University, Salem Chamber Orchestra presents classical music performances performed by local classical musicians and Willamette University students.
SALEM SENATE-AIRES MENS CHORUS – An all-male barbershop chorus of 65 men with a repertoire that includes the classic songs of the early 1900’s as well as many modern compositions.
ST. PAUL’S EVENSONG CONCERT SERIES – Presenting concerts of sacred music October – June. Most concerts are free and follow the 4:00 pm evensong service.
WILLAMETTE MASTER CHORUS – Auditioned choral ensemble of 75 veteran professional and amateur musicians. Founded through a joint effort of Lutheran Fine Arts Center and Willamette University, the chorus brings to area audiences the finest in choral masterworks from the Renaissance through the 21st century.
THEATRE & FILM
PENTACLE THEATRE
SALEM FILM FESTIVAL – Held annually in April, the Salem Film Festival provides a culturally enriching celebration of the art of film and filmmaking. The festival showcases independent film talent, provides educational opportunities for amateur and student filmmakers, and fosters film appreciation in the community.
SALEM REPERTORY THEATRE – The capital’s first professional theatre company, Salem Rep presents a full season of theatrical works ranging from drama and comedic farce to musicals that entertain, enlighten, provoke and inspire.
JUST FOR KIDS!
A.C. GILBERT’S DISCOVERY VILLAGE – children’s museum with innovative and stimulating educational experiences to spark children’s natural curiosity. Housed in five Victorian homes, the museum includes a pint-sized interactive grocery store, hands-on science exhibits, environmental and cultural exhibits. Also offers workshops, camps and classes for kids of all ages.
CHILDREN’S EDUCATION THEATRE – A dramatic arts program for children that includes classroom instruction, performance, and technical training.
CWERKS INTERACTIVE THEATER – Brings live theater to all ages through interactive children’s plays, audience-participation mysteries, mime, workshops and classes, and more.
WILLAMETTE GIRLCHOIR - A community based performing choir for girls in 2nd through 3rd grade and graduated levels for girls grades 4 through 12.

Student Art Show
Tuesday, May 27- Friday, June 6
Reception and Awards Ceremony: Wednesday, May 27, noon-2 p.m.
The best of student work from the areas of glass, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, pottery, design, and sculpture will be on display. Any student who has taken a credit art course in the past two years is eligible to enter up to two pieces for the jurying process. Awards include the President’s Purchase Award and over $300 in other prizes.
